Still life (corpses)
From time to time I become slightly mad… and some times… “I see dead bodies”… Just joking, but when I saw these animals in the central market of Valencia, the New Year’s Eve, I felt something uneasy… The market was crowded, plenty of colour in fruits and light coming through the windows. But they were alone and under a cold fluorescent light. Then, I thought that what it was a poor offal under the counter, for other people it would be a delicious dish that they could barely afford. And then the image of the still lifes in oil paintings of the 16th-17th centuries when the exhibition of food in paintings was a symbol of the wealth of the owner. So, this “modern” still life maybe can remember us that we are the ones exhibiting our wealth, while others just can dream about it, and think about where is our solidarity.
